Jammu, Jan 07 (KNO): A daily wager of power development department was electrocuted to death while repairing a high tension transmission line in Thanamandi area of Rajouri district on Thursday. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the daily wager was repairing a high tension line in Bhangahi Shahdra area of Thanamandi. He said that the daily wager received electric shock and died on the spot. The official identified the deceased daily wager as Makhna, resident of Bhanghai village of Thanamandi and was posted in PDD sub-division Rajouri. Meanwhile, the locals and family members of the deceased alleged that he was asked by the department officers to work over an HT feeder without following due protocols and he was made to climb the electric pole without shutting down the service line. "As soon as he started to repair the wire, the staff at the receiving station restored power supply and the deceased received strong electric shock, killing him on the spot,” they said. They later held a protest demonstration at Shahdra Chowk in Thanamandi, raising slogans against the department. They said that all the daily wagers and other employees of PDD are working in the field without any safety equipment being provided by the concerned department. The protestors also blocked the traffic movement for hours together while the power supply was also snapped by the fellow daily wagers of the deceased to register their protest. Later, senior officers of Thanamandi sub divisional administration, police and officers from PDD rushed to the spot and pacified the protesters, assuring every possible help for the victim family that include financial aid and employment to one of the family members—(KNO)
